Water is the quiet force behind most landscape damage in Atlanta. Heavy summer downpours land on clay soil that drains slowly, and on a sloped lot that runoff heads straight for the low spot, which is often a foundation, a patio, or the one part of the yard you actually use. Drainage work is the practice of reading where water goes and giving it a better path, so it leaves the property instead of pooling, undermining, or turning a lawn to mud.
The right fix depends on where the water is and why it sits. A French drain, which is perforated pipe bedded in gravel, intercepts water moving through soggy soil and carries it away below grade. Catch basins collect surface water from a low spot and feed it into a solid pipe. Channel drains cut across a driveway or patio to stop sheet flow at the door. Downspout extensions get roof water away from the house rather than dumping it at the corner, and where there is no lower point to send water, a dry well or a regraded swale gives it somewhere to spread and soak. Often a lot needs a combination, tied together so every part shares one clean outlet.
Our process for this service
01 · Trace the water. We walk the property during or just after rain when we can, follow the grade, and find where water enters, where it sits, and where it needs to end up. Guessing at drainage wastes money, so we start by watching what the water actually does.
02 · Design the path. We plan the collection points, the pipe runs, the slope of each line, and the outlet, whether that daylights to a lower grade, feeds a dry well, or ties into an existing system. Fall matters, since a drain only works if it runs consistently downhill.
03 · Install and grade. We dig to slope, bed the pipe, set basins and emitters, backfill, and regrade the surface so water is guided toward the intake rather than around it. Then we restore the turf or bed on top.

A drainage project includes the assessment, the pipe, gravel, basins or channel drains, the outlet, and the surface grading that ties it all together. We size the pipe to the volume of water and set every run to a slope that keeps it flowing and self-clearing. Where downspouts are the culprit, we bury and extend them to a proper discharge. Where the ground itself sheds toward the house, we correct the grade so the first few feet around the foundation fall away from it.
Because the same team designs, installs, and maintains the landscape, drainage is solved as part of the whole yard rather than as an emergency patch. We know where the beds sit, where a wall holds grade, and where new plantings will go, so a drain line is routed to serve all of it. When the heavy rains return, we can come back and confirm the system is still carrying water the way it was built to, before a small clog becomes a wet basement.
